Why it is laid out this way

  • A four-line profile comes first so a reader knows who you are before they reach the dates.
  • Skills are listed under a short heading, using the tool and system names that automated screening looks for.
  • Redundancy is a single neutral line under the role it applies to, then the bullets get on with results.
  • Older roles collapse to one line each so the CV stays at two pages.

Making it yours

  • Keep the profile to what the job ad asks for. Rewrite its first line for every application.
  • Only list tools you could use tomorrow. Interviewers test this.
  • If you have been out of work for a while, add a one-line 'Current activity' under your latest role (a course, volunteering, contracting).

Paste into Word or Google Docs, use one column and a plain font (Calibri or Arial), and save as PDF unless the ad asks for Word. Full advice in the NZ CV guide.
